It's In the Cards! The Tarot - a closer look

From time to time I meet people who are very uncomfortable with the very idea of Tarot cards. It seems that to many the Tarot has been represented as unclean, dangerous, a tool of the Dark Arts or as something to be feared and avoided.   However more and more people are willing to test that theory and ask me about Tarot card readings. I am very glad for this. Once properly understood, the Tarot ceases to be frightening and instead becomes a very useful tool to help achieve the future that one really does hope for.  I began an intensive study of Tarot in 1995. This study began as a relentless pursuit to discover the origins of the interpretations. When I found the Hermetic Tarot by Godfrey Dowson the little book in the back sent me on a tour of Hermetics, the Tree of Life model of the universe as well as a visit to publications about the Golden Dawn.  I came to realize that the Tarot fit perfectly on the Kabbalahistic Tree of Life .The Major Arcana are in...

What does that Tarot card mean? A deeper look at readings.

Some readers use a traditional 10 card spread, often called the Celtic Cross.    In a 10 card spread the reader will often turn and place the card on the table.  Many readers will tell you what that card means before revealing another.  When the next card is turned, the reader will then tell you the meaning of that card, in the new positon as it applies to your question. From time to time in a session clients will ask "What does that card mean?". It is good question, but impossible to answer during the reading process.  I bring three decks to every reading. You may choose the deck you prefer. I bring the "Thoth", "the Hermetic Tarot" and the "Archeaon Tarot" decks. They call contain 78 cards, and all the cards have the same interpretations - so your choice of deck does not affect your answer in any way. It is my hope that by choosing a deck you prefer, one that feels good to you, or is pretty to you, you will begin to be more comfortable during the session.  All decks are correct in that there are two male and two female court cards. This balance is true to the underlying mystery school of Tarot, and I honor that.  So, at any given time the following is true. Each card has at least 10 possible interpretations. Different aspects of the many meanings of any card may be more important than othe...
